Walkabout

Max I shaved my head totally bald and the skin is so baby-smooth I can’t stop touching it. That’s not relevant to anything. I don’t know why I brought it up. But seriously. Baby-smooth.

So I didn’t blog or go on Facebook or Twitter for six weeks and you know what? It was kind of good. It was like walking into the desert and rediscovering Nature. It was like being born again. It was like looking at a photo of who I used to be.

No, not really. It was pretty much like this, only I had more free time and hadn’t heard of Zach Anner.

I have been doing lots of writing. The last big Machine Man novel rewrite is almost finished, and I started something new. I was planning another serial, but this kind of grabbed me and it’s not at all serial-like. So now I’m not sure about serials. I’ll see where I am in three months.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know I’m here and writing and I know who Zach Anner is. Also: baby-smooth.

Yay, new stuff from Max Barry!
I bought the last few books by Terry Pratchett that I haven't read last week and was begining to worry what to read when I'm done with them. Your new stuff should be done and published by next month, right?
Also, who the heck is Zach Anner??

Max just posts stuff like this so that 'Zach Anner' goes through the roof on google in the next two days....

I'm gonna google 'baby-smooth' so there!

I think back on Machine Man days. That was an era in my life. Think about that. An era. I think back on those days sometimes. I'd be waiting waiting waiting in a line of traffic DAILY. But I didn't care. I usually had a machine man page to read. I long for those days Max.

So, do your thing. Write your book. But also, write another serial. PLEASE!! Thanks in advance!!

Well, I didn't go offline for 6 weeks, and still didn't know who Zach Anner was. Yes, was, since curiosity got the best of me and I added another Google-hit to his stats.

Let's see: I don't watch Oprah, don't care who John Mayer likes since he's a douchebag anyway, and don't waste my time following talent shows (Idol, X-Factor, etc...) so that explains why I didn't know about Zach Anner.

Welcome back to the Internet... it always pulls ya back in, there's no escape ;)

Wow, somehow striking.... never thought i'd actually google for zach anner....
well, yeps, i did. and well, yes, it sucked. i dunno why i cannot find interest for people like that, maybe cause i am a computer-person who doesn't like the stated propaganda shows ;) mentioned above ( thanks to ballotonia).
on the other hand, mats from Turku ( yes I know where that is, and i will be visiting there in about 3 weeks time :P ) simply is caught by the sign of life of "le grande master" MAX. Chilling.
For my part, i HAVE to be online... it's not an addiction, rather.... you know.... WORK! but that's okay. Being offline is like fishing. it can be really nice, or plain booooooring. but a bit of boredom in this paceful world is always welcomed. so welcome back max!

I was going to Google Zach Anner, until I read the words "Oprah" and "Idol" in Ballotonia's post... Now I don't want to dirty my search history. Those things are always traceable.

More importantly-- you lie, Max Barry! Or, at least, you mislead. You were on Facebook a week ago, talking about waking up in the future! I know because I have no life and spent about an hour reading my mini-feed. It was pretty fun.

but yeah, without anything new to read from you, i've picked up Larry Niven again. once i've slogged through Lucifers Hammer, i'll resume checking your blog periodically for "something-new" updates!

I wish a new Max book would drop soon. I have become addicted to PostSecret books and those only last so long, like an hour.
I too have quit twitter, myspace, & facebook. I personally think they will be the end of the world. Who really needs to know your every move.
The Zach guy, yep, googled him. And I think it is funny as all get out that all these celebs "endorse" him.

Zach Anner? No idea, and I've been netting too.

Baby smooth eh? Do you write, like faster, with a baby smooth noggin? If not, why did you waste valuable writin' time shaving it?

Glad to hear the final Machine Man approaches, you know we're all just dying to read that version don't you?

Yay! Words from Max!! I miss Machine Man and posting and Pev b/c he was always interesting.

I can't really thank you for mentioning Zach Anner. Up until about 15 minutes ago, I didn't know who he was. But I had to find out and now I wonder why I spent 15 minutes watching videos by this cerebral palsied guy who is competing in some kind of audition Oprah is having so she can give them a new show. Okay...I saved some of you the hard work of looking that up.

BTW, I've been reading Chuck Klosterman...more of a non-fiction brain, but great stuff. In fact, I went to see him read the other night and bought his book and went to have him sign it, but, it was an EBOOK...so how do you have an author sign an ebook???

Well I must admit, without the comment by coolpillows, I would have thought Mr. Barry was losing his marbles. Random post as this seemed. Of course, now that Im writing this I am suddenly realizing that, no this post doesn't make Max crazy. Being who he is, is sufficient to do that, aren't we lucky. :)

NOTE: No offense to Max, I consider this a good thing.
